ISO 9001 Foundations is a two-day training courses which focuses on the concepts of quality and quality management, and provides an overall explanation of ISO 9001 requirements for a quality management system (QMS). In this training course, you will be acquainted with the various aspects of a QMS based on ISO 9001, such as the role of top management, risks and opportunities, quality policy, processes that shape product and service provision activities, requirements for performance evaluation, and the importance of continual improvement. After completing this course, you can sit for the exam. If you successfully pass the exam, you can apply for the “Certificate Holder in ISO 9001 Foundation” designation. This certificate demonstrates that you have a general knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements for a QMS and enables you to be part of QMS implementation projects.

There are no prerequisites to participate in the ISO 9001 Foundation training course. However, students should have a basic understanding of quality management and management systems.

Introduction to Quality Concepts, QMS, and Clauses 4–6 of ISO 9001

  • Define the purpose, structure, and benefits of a Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Introduce ISO 9001 structure and Annex SL high-level format
  • Review Clause 4: Context of the organization
  • Identify internal and external issues
  • Understand stakeholder needs and expectations
  • Define QMS boundaries and scope

Review Clause 5: Leadership

  • Explain leadership commitment and the role of top management
  • Develop and communicate a quality policy
  • Assign and communicate roles, responsibilities, and authorities

Review Clause 6: Planning

  • Apply risk-based thinking to identify risks and opportunities
  • Set measurable quality objectives
  • Plan actions to address risk, opportunities, and changes

Review Clause 7: Support

  • Determine and manage necessary resources
  • Ensure competence, awareness, and communication
  • Control documented information (documents and records)

Review Clause 8: Operation

  • Plan, control, and document operational processes
  • Manage customer requirements, design, and development
  • Address outsourced processes and operational risk

Review Clause 9: Performance Evaluation

  • Monitor and measure QMS performance
  • Conduct internal audits and management reviews
  • Track customer satisfaction and feedback

Review Clause 10: Improvement

  • Identify and manage nonconformities
  • Implement corrective actions and drive continual improvement
  • Prepare for and take the ISO 9001 Foundation certificate exam
