ISO 9001 Foundation

ISO 9001 Foundations is a two-day training courses which focuses on the concepts of quality and quality management, and provides an overall explanation of ISO 9001 requirements for a quality management system (QMS). In this training course, you will be acquainted with the various aspects of a QMS based on ISO 9001, such as the role of top management, risks and opportunities, quality policy, processes that shape product and service provision activities, requirements for performance evaluation, and the importance of continual improvement. After completing this course, you can sit for the exam. If you successfully pass the exam, you can apply for the “Certificate Holder in ISO 9001 Foundation” designation. This certificate demonstrates that you have a general knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements for a QMS and enables you to be part of QMS implementation projects.

There are no prerequisites to participate in the ISO 9001 Foundation training course. However, students should have a basic understanding of quality management and management systems.

Module 1: Introduction to ISO 9001 and the Initiation of a QMS Implementation

  • Course structure, objectives, and certification process
  • Overview of ISO, management systems, and the ISO 9000 family
  • Introduction to quality management principles and ISO 9001 requirements
  • Initiating the QMS project and implementation plan
  • Leadership and commitment, establishing the quality policy
  • Defining roles, responsibilities, and authorities

Module 2: Implementation Plan of a QMS

  • Analyzing organizational context and determining QMS scope
  • Identifying risks and opportunities
  • Setting quality objectives and managing organizational change
  • Determining and allocating necessary resources
  • Developing employee competence and support for the QMS

Module 3: Implementation of a QMS

  • Promoting awareness and establishing communication channels
  • Managing documented information
  • Defining product and service requirements
  • Planning and controlling design and development
  • Managing outsourced processes and service delivery
  • Establishing monitoring, measurement, analysis, and evaluation systems

Module 4: QMS Evaluation, Improvement, and Certification Preparation

  • Conducting internal audits and management reviews
  • Addressing nonconformities and corrective actions
  • Driving continual improvement activities
  • Preparing for third-party certification
  • Closing the training course

Module 5: Certification Exam

  • Final review and exam administration
  • Apply for the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Implementer credential
